ICLEI World Congress 2009

[i]Connecting Leaders: Advancing Local Action for Sustainability[/i] 14 - 18 June 2009 Edmonton, Canada The World Congress is a five-day event filled with insightful presentations and discussions, study tours and celebrations, sharing and learning, where we bring together hundreds of colleagues and interested partners, and encourage the ICLEI network to strengthen and grow. Since the World Congress 2006 in Cape Town (South Africa), ICLEI has experienced a two-fold increase in its membership, having expanded from 490 members to more than 1000. The upcoming congress will be a milestone, showcasing ICLEI’s success and growth, especially in the last three years. The five days of the World Congress will not only be dedicated to reviewing the progress, but to studying future challenges and sharing intense discussions on ICLEI strategies. It will be a celebration of ICLEI’s history of driving change by supporting performancebased, results oriented campaigns, programmes, projects, research, piloting, training, seminars, tools, publications, and expertise that accelerate sustainable development through cumulative local action. The World Congress 2009 will convene government officials, academics, business and community leaders who directly influence social, environmental and economic policies that affect millions of people. The Congress will be the ideal opportunity for ICLEI members and global partners to reach new levels of integration and cooperation, and jointly achieve results. The gathering in Edmonton will be a truly unique opportunity for those associated with ICLEI to learn from each other and interact beyond regional boundaries. Conference fee and registration ICLEI Members: 500 Euro Full fee: 600 Euro A reduced fee of 300 Euro will be applicable for participants coming from countries with a GNI lower than US$ 9,205. For a explanation and a list of eligible countries, please check: www.iclei.org/worldcongress2009/registration The congress fee covers admission to the event and to the exhibition, simultaneous translation, participant materials, one mobile workshop as part of the Edmonton Day, a daily lunch and light breakfast at the venue, two dinners, two cocktail receptions, the carbon offset contribution and an attendance certificate. Translations into French, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean will be offered for the plenaries and at least one parallel session.
