The future of shrinking cities
International Symposium
Problems, patterns and strategies of urban transformation in a global context
Thursday, February 8 and Friday, February 9, 2007
International House, University of California, Berkeley
The purpose of the symposium is to encourage and inform discussion and action to improve the quality of life in shrinking cities. To accomplish
this, symposium participants will identify and examine critical projects and issues in shrinking cities and compare lessons learned from relevant
projects and experiences in the US and abroad. The comparative approach to shrinking cities incorporating a wide range of case studies in order to widen the debate is both unique and innovative. In addition to thorough
investigations in various metropolitan areas of the US, experiences from Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, France, Great Britain, South Korea, Japan
and Australia will be involved.
