Phd Program in Urbanism

[i]Faculty of Architecture – Technical University of Lisbon[/i] Coordination: Full Professor Clara Mendes The PhD Program in Urbanism aims to developing a deeper knowledge in several areas of expertise related to Urbanism, and which may be regarded as of interest to research, lecturing and urban planning practices. The completion of the Program grants the candidate a PhD Diploma in Urbanism, to which the following components are mandatory: - Research Methodologies. - Areas of Expertise inclusive of specific modules - Urban Design and Landscape, City and Territory, Urban Development and Sustainability, Urban Management and Policies. - Optional modules selected within the other Expertise Areas, other Doctoral Programs at the Faculty of Architecture or from different schools and universities, provided they were approved by the candidate’s tutor. - Candidates must obtain approval in 40 ECTS of curricular modules, at least, 25 of which should contribute to the definition of the selected Expertise Area and, therefore, must correspond to Modules of each Research Theme. The other 15 ECTS may correspond to Optional Modules. - Thematic Seminars in which individual research progresses are coordinated and collectively discussed. - Research Laboratories in which the candidate’s individual research is developed under tutorialships. These research practices may also be developed in funded Research Projects or Research Centres and Laboratories, either in the Faculty of Architecture or in other Research Centres and schools or universities either in Portugal or abroad. - Scientific Assessment Exam: after concluding the 2nd Semester, candidates must present a Thesis Project, and the thesis’ supervisor will be appointed. - Doctoral Thesis.
